Our Story

Why we started Ascented

We're a student-led small business making handcrafted candles, built around one idea: buying a candle shouldn't be a throwaway decision.

So let's be honest with you: burning a candle, even a soy one, doesn't make the environment better on its own. Any wax gives off some particulate matter and CO2 when it burns. What actually makes a difference is specific, not vague. It's the wax we choose. It's the wick. It's a real plan for what happens to the jar after the candle's gone. And it's where the profit from your purchase actually ends up.

That's the standard we're building Ascented around: not a sticker that says "eco-friendly," but choices we can actually explain to you, one at a time.

Try before you light. Return when you're done.

Two small programs that keep you happy with your candle and keep the jar out of the landfill.

Before you light

Scent Cards

Every candle ships with a scent card. Smell the card first to make sure you like the scent.

Don't like it? Don't light the candle. Once it's lit, it's no longer eligible for exchange.
If you haven't lit it and don't like the scent, you can exchange it once.
You pay to ship the unlit candle back to us (or drop it off at one of our in-person events), and we cover standard shipping on the replacement.
The candle must come back unlit, undamaged, and in its original packaging and box.

After you finish

Glass Jar Return Program

Once you've finished a candle, we'd love to give the jar a second life.

Return the jar in the box the candle shipped in if you still have it. If not, use a box with heavy padding so the jar doesn't break.
Leaving the label stickers on helps, and so does removing the wick if you can.
Drop the jar off at one of our in-person events, or ship it back yourself. We don't cover return shipping for this program.
If the jar and box arrive undamaged, we'll send you a 10% reward for participating.
